1926 US Amateur Champion George Von Elm Signed Album Page Dated '1933'
“The monarch of golf was toppled from his amateur throne…by flaxen-haired George Von Elm…in one of the most stunning upsets of links history.” This quote comes from an Associated Press reporter in the year 1926 after a seemingly unstoppable Bobby Jones was bested in the United States amateur championship by Von Elm. The Amateur aspect of golf history is well noted from the likes of Bobby Jones to Francis Ouimet and was in full affect in the 1920s. George Von Elm took part in three Walker cup tournaments, competing for the United States team. None of those highlights shined brighter than what he did in the 1926 US Amateur that took place at Baltusrol Golf Club. Here is a nicely ballpoint pen signed album page by Von Elm with the date of 1933. The verso includes a gentleman named JE Rodgers from Denver Country Club, likely a fellow contestant in the tournament this album went to in 1933. James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed this signature and their auction letter of authenticity (ALOA) comes with this lot.
