Rory Sabbatini's Special Tour Approved Camo Worn 2005 Players Championship
It was for a great cause that Rory Sabbatini wore these camo pants at the 2005 Players Championship. The Sawgrass patrons were not used to the look. That was the idea. Picked up by the New York Times, this pair of pants gained national (and international) attention that week. "In wearing the pants, Sabbatini, 29, has not only dealt with occasional laughter from the gallery, but has had to receive approval on the style from Tour officials. After he first wore the camouflage pants, in February at the FBR Open in Scottsdale, Ariz., officials asked him to tone down the look. In March, at the Players Championship, he wore a different pair that the Tour has allowed.
"We were trying to work with the Tour, trying to find a style of pants that they felt were reasonable golfing attire in their opinion and what we felt communicated what we wanted to do," Sabbatini said.
"It just happened that we went through about 20 different styles of camouflage pants, and this is the one that they felt was the most appropriate. Their feeling was they wanted something that if I wore them into any country club around the country, that would probably be O.K."
The dark pair that Sabbatini wore Thursday was "a little less intrusive on the eye," he said. (The other style he wears is a light khaki.)
