Three (3) 1920 Harry Vardon And Ted Ray Exhibition at Inverness Matted Original Photos
The 'Vardon Invasion' would begin in 1900 at the US Open hosted by The Chicago Golf Club when he outdueled JT Taylor for United States victory. On May 10, 1920 it would reemerge when Vardon teamed up with fellow Englishman and Open Champion Ted Ray in a 1920 exhibition at The Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio. These three crystal clear oversize original photos depict the atmosphere that day. Before an attentive gallery of Americans, Vardon and Ray overpowered the best of the local talent Tom Stevens and Harry Legg. Ted Ray would go on to win the US Open at that course three months later, over Vardon and three Americans. It was both Vardon and Ray's first US Open since being on the wrong end of the Francis Ouimet 1913 US Open improbable playoff victory. Vardon is depicted in white with pipe in mouth.
