Willie Dunn, Sr./ John Gourlay Family Owned Feathery Golf Ball
This feathery golf ball was consigned to us by a direct descendant of Willie Dunn, Sr. and John Gourlay, both prominent ball and clubmakers, and accomplished golfers in the 1800’s. We do not know who made this feathery golf ball, but we do know it has purportedly been in the family of Willie Dunn Sr. and John Gourlay since the 1800’s. The craftsmanship does not appear to be by the hand of Dunn or Gourlay, who made beautiful feathery golf balls of the highest quality, but this piece was a family heirloom and kept in high regard for nearly two (2) centuries for a reason. Was this one of the early feathery balls made by someone else in the 1700’s and obtained and kept by these golf ball giants? We will never know but we do know this came from the same family descendant who consigned to us Gourlay’s 1851 Medal and other balls made by him. The winning bidder will be the first non-family owner. This is also hard as (nearly) a rock and if you knock on it with your knuckles you can both feel how hard it is and the noise you would expect from a hard ball. 1.5oz.
