Babe 'Didrickson' Zaharias’ Personal Model MacGregor 3-Iron with Auction Program & Tag - Attributed
Here is a MacGregor 3 iron attributed to being Babe Didrickson's personally used club. Our consigner won this club in the Chuck Furjanic Golf Auction held on May 7, 1995 featuring items from the Estate of LPGA player and avid golf collector, Linda Craft, of which this club was in her collection at lot 136 (catalog and listing photos shown). Described then as a Babe Zaharias’ “personally used #3 iron” and it sold for over $1,800. The iron is accompanied by the brass nameplate Linda used to display the club although the wood plaque is now gone. The Golf Auction cannot be certain whether this was Babe’s game used club but it was at least attributed to her in the Furjanic/Craft auction. Please bid accordingly. Babe Didrickson was a member of the Macgregor staff from the late 1930's until 1947 when she signed with Wilson. Please inspect the accompanying lot photos for a detailed condition report.
Considered by many to the greatest female athlete of the early 20th century, Babe won a two gold medals at the 1932 Summer Olympic Games and became a 10x Major golf Champion, including 3 U.S. Open Championships, after her storied amateur sports career. She passed far too young at the age of 45 in 1956.
