Tiger Woods 1996 SI For Kids Series 3 Card BECKETT Near Mint 7
For preservation, valuation and presentation purposes this 1996 Tiger Woods Sports Illustrated is graded (7!) and encapsulated by the discerning eye of Beckett. Initially part of a perforated card sheet of nine athletes across sport, this card is highly condition sensitive and this example is poised to turn heads. The December 1996 Sports Illustrated for Kids issue was Tiger Woods's very first card, predating his official Upper Deck #1 rookie card hobby entry by five years. When issued 27 years ago kids would remove each of the cards from the magazine and some would cut the perforation off the edges to make it smooth like their card counterparts, for what was deemed the "greater good." Card grading was far from an industry standard and many didn't survive the sheet extraction. This desirable hobby entrant picturing the Cypress, California kid in his US Amateur black hat ensemble represents an iconic card in the the golf card segment and must for the Tiger collector.
