1824 Thistle Golf Club Handwritten Admission Request Note - Framed
Written to notable Thistle Golf Club Secretary John Crundell: "As I wish to be admitted a member of the Thistle Golf Club, I request the form of your proposing me, at the next meeting as a candidate for that then." It is part of the incredible and hobby-famous find of Leith ephemera decades ago. Colonel T.B.A. Evans-Lombe O.B.E. originally kept this and other historical documents in his 'Tin Black Box' that was auctioned off by Sotheby's in their July 1996 auction after he passed away. It is tastefully and professionally framed to bring out the white of the 200 year old paper with the black background.
Usually found only in private transactions, we would like to thank our Consignor for allowing The Golf Auction to present this piece of golf history to you. The opportunity to considerably advance your collection has arrived. The Thistle Golf Club was established in 1815, and was in active operation up to 1830, then had another stint from 1866 to 1888. The original Thistle Golf Club is no more, but it's history thrives through such a well preserved piece. 11 1/2" x 14 1/2"
