Rare 1823 Leith Thistle Golf Club Gold Medal Original Used Scorecard - Framed
This 201 year old Leith Thistle Golf Club Gold Medal hand notated scorecard represents one of the earliest scorecards in existence, a prized heirloom preserved in exceptional condition from 1823. It is part of the incredible and hobby-famous find of Leith ephemera decades ago. Colonel T.B.A. Evans-Lombe O.B.E. originally kept this and the other historical club documents in his 'Tin Black Box' that was auctioned off by Sotheby's in their July 1996 auction after he passed away. The notion of a golf course consisting of 18 holes didn't come until years later; this scorecard predates that with a 10 hole total - the 5 hole Leith Links course twice. It was after all for the 'Gold Medal,' the title of the springtime Leith Thistle Club Championship. Depicted, Mr. Sprol scored a 75 over the 10 holes on May 10th, 1823. Welcomed high contrast between the black background and off white of the scorecard was strategically and professionally considered in the presentation of this framed heirloom along with 'Thistle Golf Club' in stylized font just below.

The opportunity to considerably advance your collection has arrived. The Thistle Golf Club was established in 1815, and was in active operation up to 1830, then had another stint from 1866 to 1888.
