1905 The Hyannisport Club Sterling Silver & Cut Glass Championship Trophy/Pitcher
The Hyannisport Club was founded in 1897. John Reid designed a 6 hole layout at that time and in 1902 Alexander Findlay layed out a 9 hole course which was expanded to 18 holes in 1913. Donald Ross remodeled the course in 1936. The Hyannisport Club is famously known as the home course of the Kennedys. It is situated less than a mile from the Kennedy compound and President John F. Kennedy played the course regularly.
This finely crafted 10” trophy was made by Gorham and bears their sterling mark to the rim and weighs 4.5 lbs.
The engraving on the sterling top reads; “Hyannis Port Golf Club Championship 1905”
The Cape Cod venue remains today a private invitation only club.
Overall, a magnificent one-of-a-kind early trophy from a club with ties to John Reid, Alexander Findlay, Donald Ross and the Kennedys.
