Sam Snead’s Quick Way to Better Golf. [New York]: Sun Dial Press, (1938). Slim folio (10 by 14 inches), original illustrated stiff paper cover.
First edition of Slammin’ Sam’s first instructional manual, illustrated with multiple stop-action photographs on every page.
Sam Snead, “the sweet swinger whose style and grace are as familiar to golfers and golfing fans as his trademark wideband straw hat,” won six major titles, including the 1942, 1949 and 1951 PGA Championships, the 1949 and 1952 Masters Tournament, and the 1946 British Open. This is his first instructional manual on his innovative style (he’s credited with the “stack-and-tilt” method). “Golf is a matter of feeling and touch,” Snead concludes. “Only a limited amount of good golf can be imparted by words alone…If you want to play better than you do, this book will make good golf easy for you.”
