Ouimet & Teams Signed 1932 Walker Cup at The Country Club Official Program

A mere three calendars into the devastating Great Depression that left few Americans with an 'entertainment budget' or disposable income for sporting events, this surviving example of the 1932 Walker Cup program was distributed to the spectators on the grounds of The Country Club of Brookline. Only the seventh edition, held on the first and second of September 1932, United states would notch as many victories and this by the count of 9 1/2 points to 2 1/2. It was the first under the tutelage of playing captain Francis Ouimet, who would lead the US the next five matches with four team wins. The prized ephemera referred to accurately as a 'survivor' is the first of its kind that we have offered and contains signatures of successful captain, both US Open and US Amateur champion Francis Ouimet, along with a dozen more, these from both sides of the isle. US Team contestants to add their penmanship are: Jessie Sweetser, Gus Moreland, Billy Howell, George Dunlop, Donald Moe, George Voigt, and Charles Seaver (Pitcher Tom Seaver's father). British Team contestants to sign by their image: John Burke, Eric W. Fiddian, Rex Hartley, Lister Hartley, and Eric McRuvie. This program includes a section titled 'Bobby Jones Say' in which Jones shared his own thoughts on the Walker Cup and likewise from golf authors and dignitaries Bernard Darwin and Captain Ouimet. Approaching a century since print, this reader remains complete and in good condition with very minor spots of discoloration as depicted in the accompanying lot photos and poised for library inclusion. James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed these signature and their auction letter of authenticity (ALOA) comes with this lot.
