JH Taylor Twice-Signed 1958 Handwritten Letter w/ Prestwick Mention
Five-time 'Champion Golfer of the Year' John Henry (JH) Taylor (d.1963) handwrote this deeply personal, full-page note that is heightened with a flowing signature at its conclusion. He signed it again above his address on the outside of the note card mailed August 21, 1958. A member of The Great Triumvirate, the original "Big 3," with Harry Vardon and James Braid, Taylor would win his incredible 5th and final Open Championship title over the defending champion Ted Ray by 8 strokes.
"You, recalling the incident of my presenting you a wooden tee awakens many pleasant memories of Prestwick (Golf Club) and of the old days when life was more pleasant than in the hectic times we now experience." Taylor then signs off with a final life progress report " I'm happy to say I keep as well as the mounting years allow and still enjoy the beauties that are offered to those who appreciate its worth."
