All these clubs, bag and headcovers carry a Hawaiian theme and were used during numerous
celebrity tournaments. Joe made it a habit while in the beautiful state of Hawaii, to seek out of
the way lodging hoping to avoid fans and the media. One of the places he stayed was at consignor Babe Zaharias Foundation founder Hal Shaw's
aunt and uncle’s Bed and Breakfast located on the island of Kalani-Kona. Joan and Ed Mays
treated Joe like one of the family and this turned into many bookings by the NY Yankee’s
superstar. It is also worth nothing that Ed and Joan were big time Yankees fans. It was during
one of his visits and after Joe’s celebrity commitments he decided to gift Joan and Ed his
complete set of clubs to remember him by every time they watched a golf event or when the
Yankees played. Shaw's aunt brought them to Tampa after Ed passed away and donated them to
The Babe Zaharias Foundation. A signed letter of provenance from The Babe Zaharias Foundation founder Hal Shaw comes with this lot. 35" - 44"
