1959 Walker Cup Ticket Stub - Nicklaus First Walker Cup PSA PR 1
Hosted by the course that would later serve as inspiration to Jack Nicklaus Muirfield Village in his home state of Ohio, here is a ticket from 1959 Walker Cup in which Nicklaus debuted. In May of 1959, Jack Nicklaus traveled as a 19-year-old Ohio State Freshman to Scotland with the United States team to compete in the Walker Cup matches against Great Britain, held at the fast playing links course. U.S. team member Harvie Ward always up for a good time gave each of his teammates nicknames with Nicklaus carrying the tag "Snow White", Ward did not let up on himself carrying the nickname ("E. Mickey Mouse"). The relaxed mood around the team carried through to victory in what many call the finest U.S. squad assembled. Nicklaus was 2-0-0 winning in foursomes and easily winning a singles match 5 & 4 Saturday. Means of admission for that FINAL ROUND Saturday that accompanied a juvenile gallery member 65 years ago here is rare and exhibits expected usage. The event was held in Scotland at Muirfield therefore making this piece difficult to find for collectors. Scooping up all of Jack Nicklaus' amateur ephemera requires interest in this ducat from the then Ohio State University collegiate golfer's US Walker Cup team debut.
