Payne Stewart's 1983 Masters Tournament Contestant Badge #30 - Masters Debut
Initially from the Payne Stewart Collection comes the toughest of all Masters Tournament credentials with an obvious heightened importance and name association accompanying the example in this lot. Stewart was issued this very red and white celluloid 'Player' badge by Augusta National for his Masters debut tournament in 1983 - first of 14 that included two top 10's. Receiving the invitation is an honor, and qualifying for the small field of the Masters is something that most golfers never do. These highly sought after individually numbered 'Player' badges don't often have a household (celebrated) name associated with them. Here is Payne Stewart's 1983 Masters Tournament Contestant Badge #30 boasting of strong color and subtle signs of usage from that first week in April. Affixed to the person, Stewart often saw it as an welcomed accessory opposed to a procedural duty. An extension of his outfit, this badge could be found adorning his Ben Hogan style hat or front of the shirt.
