Pinehurst Putter Boy Large Balfour Sundial Statue
The Putter Boy was first created in the early 1900's and appeared in ads for the Pinehurst Resort. He was then called the “The Golf Lad” or “The Golf Boy” In the 1970’s the name “The Putter Boy” emerged as the nickname for the statue. In 1912 sculptress Lucy Richards created a bronze sundial based on the advertising figure. It is said that Donald Ross showed her the proper grip and stance for the piece as Richards was not a golfer. The statue was mounted on a concrete base and resides besides the putting greens outside the clubhouse. The long shaft of the golf club creates a shadow that was used to tell time. This is the large example of this heavy bronze sun dial and it is mounted to its original wood base with Balfour sticker to the bottom. A must have for display in your golf room and staple in the industry. 9" x 9" x 9 1/2"
