1978 Memorial Tournament Francis Ouimet Ltd Ed Honoree Porcelain Plate
This lot features a commemorative plate from the 1978 Memorial Tournament. Each year the Memorial Tournament honors an important figure in golf. Selecting honorees was Nicklaus' idea as a contribution to perpetuating achievements of the games' greatest individuals. Francis Ouimet was honored in 1978, considered the "father of amateur golf," and having won 3 Major championships (1913 US Open, and 1914 and 1931 US Amateur Opens). The blue and white plate comes in excellent condition and is 8 1/2" in diameter, made in Denmark by B&G Copenhagen Porcelain. This lot will come with a Letter of Provenance from Georgia Fasano, Senior Curator at the World Golf Hall of Fame, proclaiming that this item comes from their collection.
