1950 Augusta National Golf Club Masters Invitation Given to Charles Ward from Bobby Jones!
"Charles Ward - 1947 Dunlop Masters Winner, 1948 & 1949 Vardon Trophy, and 3x Ryder Cup Player. Accompanying note reads as follows:
After spending the winter of 1949 playing golf in America. Charles Ward was invited, by his then friend, Frank Stranahan, to play a round of golf with Robert T. Jones at the Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia. Ward was partnered by fellow Ryder cup player Dai Rees against Stranahan and Jones. Jones only request was that they remain silent about the invitation, as he wished it to remain a strictly private affair. After returning to his club professionals post at Little Aston in Birmingham, this invitation arrived in the post. Unfortunately, Little Aston refused permission for Ward to attend, as it would interfere with his club duties."
