Royal Doulton Rare Large Punchbowl Featuring Chas. Crombie Puritan Golfers In Various Scenes On The Golf Course
Royal Doulton crafted their 'Series Ware' line from approximately 1911 to 1932 and now, well over a century later, this stunningly massive punch bowl remains the unicorn piece for many advanced pottery collections. Why? It is rumored that there are less than 10 examples that have survived. Wrapped around the circumference of the bowl are golfer scenes were inspired by the work of famous illustrator Charles Crombie, who is most well-known in the industry for his humorous 'Rules of Golf' found on Perrier water advertising circa 1905. The puritan golfers are artfully depicted in three various positions. 14 1/2" x 14 1/2" x 9"
The Doulton family started making stoneware goods (tableware, pipes, and sanitary fittings) in 1815, later enlisting local artists and art students to design the incredibly popular pieces. Doulton was granted the Royal Warrant in 1901 by King Edward VII, and continues to make fine glassware to this day, now a part of the Waterford Wedgwood family.
