2018 The Open at Carnoustie Final Round Course Flown Hole #16 'Barry Burn' Flag
This very pin flag was studied intensely by players and caddies prior to teeing off at the crucial and treacherous par 3 hole 16 during the final round of the 2018 Open Championship at Carnoustie Golf Links. This same hole, 'Barry Burn', Jack Nicklaus labeled decades prior as "the hardest par 3 in golf." Unquestionably it remains one of the most famous challenges of the Open Championship course rotation. During the 2018 Open Championship final round Sunday, this two-sided yellow with a red '16' was secured atop the flagstick while whipping around in the wind tunnel - a sign of caution to eldest major's contestants. Eventual Champion Golfer of the Year Francesco Molinari played the now 248 yard par 3 hole in even par in 2018, avoiding any big numbers and finishing unscathed. The original plastic tube insert remains inside this flag that has been preserved to good condition, with some slight overall expected wear from usage on Sunday, July 22, 2018. Accompanying this lot is a The Open-Fanatics certificate of authenticity that specifically states "This certificate hereby certifies that this pin flag was used on-course during the 147th Open at Carnoustie Golf Links in Round 4 for Hole #16." Adhered to the bottom corner of the flag and the certificate are matching Fanatics tamper-proof authentication hologram stickers with a QR code #RG13331900.
