1903 Kashmir Golf Club Silver Shield Trophy - Hallmarked Glasgow
Elder statesman of the Kashmir Valley of India, the Kashmir Golf Club was built by the British in 1887 as a summer getaway. It now is known for its breathtaking views and staple Chinar trees that line the fairways. The track is in the city of Sringar, surrounded by luxury hotels and dubbed a tourist hotspot.
This endlessly intricate and stylized 121 year-old golf trophy shield in shallow relief on wood carries the time-period J.C. & S stamped hallmark from the Joseph Cook & Son shop in Hiberian Works, Livery Street, Birmingham. Aesthetics that draw the viewer in, it is engraved with a golf club scene to the center (rubbed) and Indian figures throughout. Around the edge of the shield are evenly spaced slightly raised circles to finalize the design. It is overall 7" x 5.5" It is from The Estate of The Late David Easby, esteemed United Kingdom-based collector and member of both Royal North Devon and Walton Heath Golf Clubs. The verso contains a hanger for display.
