1929 Ryder Cup Team USA Bon Voyage Dinner at New York Athletic Club Program
The 1929 United States Ryder Cup team bon voyage dinner was held at the Athletic Club in New York prior to boarding the ship to Moortown Golf Club in Leeds England for only the second playing of the biennial international matches on April 26-27. This would be only months before the infamous Wall Street Crash of September 1929. The visiting US Team would be taxed with raising money for their international travels themselves in 1929, as they already had commitments from the USGA and Bobby Jones. This duo planned an exhibition match for the cause. The forward to this program comes under the penning of Hall of Fame writer Grantland Rice. The 1929 Ryder Cup matches were held at Moortown Golf Club, as noted the second installment of the matches ever held. Great Britain won the matches 7 to 5, for their very first Ryder Cup win. It remains in good to very good condition and includes bios and black and white portrait photos of each of the United States team representatives. This 1929 Ryder Cup Team USA Bon Voyage Dinner at New York Athletic Club program remains scarce, distributed to those in attendance only and very few have survived the nearly 100 year journey - with this lot one of those exceptions.
