Babe Zaharias' Personal Winning 1954 US Women's Open Ball Marker
From The Babe Zaharias Foundation comes Zaharias' historical ball marker used during her victory at the 1954 US Women's Open Championship at the Salem CC in Massachusetts. As customary, Babe always attached certain signs, numbers, or objects to her performances! This patriot half-dollar from 1925 fit the role perfectly, especially its significance to our founding nation. As mentioned, Zaharias was a numbers person. Zaharias won three Olympic medals in 1932 and on the 'tails' side of her 1954 US Women's Open used ballmarker are three hand gouged out "o" to represent each. Furthermore, this coin features the Old Belfry in the city of Lexington, Massachusetts - only an hour's car ride from the 1954 US Women's Open host site of Salem. This is historic in nature and has been preserved in a vintage coin holder penned 'USGA 1954 - BDZ - Women's Golf Open' around the heads side and 'Patriot Half-Dollar 1775-1925' on the verso.
