This is one of the most iconic photos of Walter Hagen. It shows the dashing Hagen stepping Into a circa 1929 Duesenberg. The photo sits within a 9 x 12 “ frame. It wonderfully exemplifies the famous quote on the cover jacket of the Walter Hagen Story --” I never wanted to be a millionaire I Just wanted to live like one…” The photo emanates from Hagen’s own estate as documented by the Certificate of Authenticity from Shelby Plyer attached to the rear. Provenance: A large portion of Hagen’s estate passed to his companion Doris Brandes. Brandes was befriended and cared for in her later years by Shelby Plyer of Tustin Michigan. Brandes’ cousin Ruth Matthews inherited all of Brandes possessions when she died in 1989 and then passed them on to Plyer. Hagen won 11 majors in total, third only to Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods, and he is known as the father of professional golf. In the early part of the 20th century, there was no better professional golfer than Walter Hagen, and none had a bigger personality.
