J.H. Taylor and Fred Hawtree Early Golf Architecture Advertising Paperweight


Glass paper weights were a popular form of advertising in the early 1910’s and 20’s. This example advertises the services of J. H. Taylor and Fred Hawtree. Frederic G. Hawtree started his golf course design and construction firm in 1912. Open champion J. H. Taylor joined Hawtree in 1922. Per Cornish and Whitten in The Architects of Golf, Hawtree … “ was responsible for the day-to-day details and design work, while Taylor handled the interviews with clients and appeared at official openings. They also state that Hawtree and Taylor “created some fifty new courses and remodeled another fifty” The 4.25 x 3 x 1” paperweight is embossed on the base “Hawtree and J.H Taylor Ltd 109 Kingsway London WC - Expert Golf Course Architects Designers and Constructors Telephone Holborn 3081.” This is a unique golf architecture related collectible for your desk, and it would probably be near impossible to find another
