The pinnacle of Open Championship credentials lies here, once issued to a major champion at the oldest championship in the world. Johnny Miller won his second major title at the 1976 Open Championship at Royal Birkdale. Miller held off an astounding 19 year old Seve Ballesteros and the always challenging Jack Nicklaus, shooting a 279 and winning by 6 strokes. This contestant badge carries the time-period royal blue enamel ring around the centered Royal and Ancient Golf Club of Saint Andrews logo in shallow relief. This badge shows subtle, expected signs of age and usage when examined closely. Major Championship contestant badges remain a highly coveted relic, only issued to 155 players for that week.
