c.1900 Woodbury Types Golf Images of Pro Players on Leith Links in 1867
Here are Woodburytype of three very famous images of the highest quality and collectability. This is significant when appreciating this antique work, as the process provides a timestamp of c. 1900 for this fine collection of images. These are not technically photographs, but more of a cross between that and a print - halfway between the two. They look almost like carbon prints, with shiny areas when held to light, as well as areas that are raised. The Woodburytype process was no longer in use much after the turn of the century. These were purported to be purchased from a women in St Kilda, Victoria Australia who purchased them from an old Scottish family. Three images include: 1) captured outside Leith academy school gates. 2) captured outside on The Links themselves with the Edinburgh hills in the distance 3) captured at the Golf House at Leith Links. The Links Golf House was run by the Honorable Company of Golfers. They had trouble keeping it in a good condition because a number of their company started to frequent Musselborough. This photo depicts the last professional tournament at Leith Links.
