Facsimile Copy of Augusta National Temporary Clubhouse 2nd Floor Plans from Architect in 1932
The Augusta National Golf clubhouse known today, the 1854 built former home of the Berckman family and now historic landmark, was almost replaced in 1932. Hired by Bobby Jones, 'prolific Southern architect' Willis Irvin was tasked with drawing up a new clubhouse plan. Irvin's early draft would be published in The Augusta Chronicle even on Oct. 28, 1931. His thoughts were to add a main entrance turned to Magnolia Drive and a Green gable supported by four white columns. Erecting the new building in place of the old would be squashed due to hard financial times and pushback of original clubhouse demolishing. This is a facsimile copy of the 2nd floor from Willis Irvin dated from 1932. It is presented on board, with the framing option up to the winning bidder and their preferences. What could have been, never was - thankfully. The story that accompanies this piece from Augusta, Georgia is certainly of great interest to golf and Augusta National historians alike. 24" x 26"
