Olin Dutra Signed 1935 Handwritten Letter to George Jacobus on Personal Letterhead 10/28

From the PGA of America archives, unearthed to be in this lot is Olin Dutra's 1935 Ryder Cup acceptance letter to PGA President George Jacobus. "I wish to thank you for your decision in regards to the tournament invitation." Dutra goes on to pen on his personal letterhead, "it was received with great joy" just prior to formally accepting. Concluding this was the writer's signature for this letter to a friend, simply 'Olin.' Dutra was a 1933 Ryder Cup team member, embarking on his sophomore campaign in 1935. A point would be notched for the US Team by Dutra on the way to a 9-3 British route. Olin Dutra captured his first career Major at the 1932 PGA Championship played at Keller Golf Course in Minneapolis, Minnesota and and a second at the Merion hosted 1934 US Open while battling a nasty amoebic dysentery infection. An array of monikers followed the affable Dutra, including 'King Kong,' 'Slammin Spaniard' and Golden Basque.' Below is the transcription of Dutra's 1935 Ryder Cup at Ridgewood CC correspondence with George Jacobus:

George Jacobus
Ridgewood C.C.
Ridgewood, NJ

Enclosed herewith is my check for $32.00 to take care of the difference in airway passage so kindly looked after on my behalf.

Now I wish to thank you for your decision in regard to the tournament invitation. I can assure you it was received with great joy and can reassure you as I previously stated and wish to again reiterate that the construction of these tournaments will be a message of good will to and from the P.G.A.

A great deal of good has been done by the P.G.A. endorsement and my only wish is that with proper coordination the yearly conflict can be avoided and I know it can.

Have not heard from you in regards to the photographs I ordered from a Mrs. Brochway.

Thanks again George and best wishes. Sincerely - Olin
