1931 US Amateur at Beverly CC Contestant Badge - Francis Ouimet Win

This is our first offering of the 1931 US Amateur contestant scalloped edge badge from Francis Ouimet's final major victory issued to players for that week at the Beverly Country Club in Chicago, IL. It was given and worn during the tournament 89 years ago at the Donald Ross course, few remain in circulation. Bobby Jones was of course the defending champion. While many consider Bobby Jones to be the greatest amateur golfer ever to play, Francis Ouimet is known as the "father of amateur golf" in the United States. Ouimet won the 1913 U.S. Open and the U.S. Amateur Championship in 1914 and 1931. With exactly 17 years in between to the day, celebrated amateur golfer Ouimet out-dueled Jack Westland 6 and 5 in the 1931 US Amateur final match in Chicago at Beverly. It would prove to be Francis Ouimet's third and final major. This tough contestant badge is in good condition, with its condition exceeding most of those few remaining - though we haven't had another.
