Alister MacKenzie Inscribed 1920 'Golf Architecture' Book "With best wishes from the author"

The inception of a definite "aha moment" was triggered with the pulling back the green front board of this highly coveted first edition 'Golf Architecture' book written by the course design savant Alister MacKenzie. We have presented the title a handful of times over the years, each to a warm bidding reception, but this exemplar was unlike the others. The observer of this reader is greeted by one-of-a-kind inscription by Alister MacKenzie that is penned over 6 lines on the flyleaf page, with the final three lines being a crowning jewel course design portfolio recipients - Cypress Point Club. "Wish best wishes from the Author (Alister MacKenzie) - Sept. 1930 - Cypress Point Club, Pebble Beach, California," MacKenzie handwrote. Referring to himself as simply the author, it was important to cross-reference the Alister MacKenzie Augusta National Golf Club plans in which he signed as well as left a lengthy notation. The handwriting was an exact match, with similarities including the distinct slant, formation of each letter not excluding the late cross of the lowercase "t," descender of the lowercase f and transition to the next letter once back to the baseline and spacing throughout and between the words. Incredible piece of history lies in this lot, perhaps once part of the Cypress Point Club's library or a time-period member's (since removed with a clean horizontal cut at the top of the page) notated by the famed author Alister MacKenzie himself!
