Lee Trevino's 1981 Ryder Cup at Walton Heath Team Blazer Bullion Crest & Badge - Framed
From the man who tied for the most points of anyone on the victorious 1981 Ryder Cup Team USA with 4, here is Lee Trevino's team issued stitched blazer jacket pocket crest along with his 'Lee Trevino' issued and worn badge. The former is comprised in stunning bullion fringed construction which has been hand crafted, employing metal threads in gold against a suede background. This crest displays the flags of the two competing nations, an image of the prized Cup so named for it's original presenter. The 1981 Ryder Cup participants including Trevino displayed these crests on their blazers before, during and after the Champions Dinner as has been the tradition over the events rich history. In a less formal setting in which he was gaining heightened access, Trevino and others would wear their Player badges, this the red example with streamers and silver writing.
The 1981 Ryder Cup matches at Walton Heath Golf Club in Surrey, England saw the United States team claim the cup by a margin of 18 1/2 - 9 1/2. Ryder Cup participants crests have occasionally reached the market place, but when they do arrive at auction the bidding is usually keen for these treasured items framed together from nearly 45 years ago by the recipient and friend of Trevino Jim Ely II, who also consigned Lee Trevino's 1974 PGA Championship winner's plaque in a different lot of this auction.
