Large Circa 1920 Original Plus Four Whisky Plaster Advertising Display w/Original Paint
We believe this is one of the most impressive golf-related advertising display pieces ever created. Just as impressive is that it remains full intact. It would have been displayed on a shelf or counter in a liquor store or in a club house or other bar to promote the consumption of Plus Four Scotch Whiskey. It is very large , measuring 12” x 10.” Pictures of this item can also be found in both Ohlman’s Golf Antiques and Furjanic’s Antique Golf Collectibles. It features a jacketed golfer with tie and tasseled Scottish cap Holding a golf club against a huge mesh golf ball. Lettering on the ball states “ Plus Four Scotch Whiskey scores at the 19th hole.” The base further states “Average Age 15 Years Old.”
This piece and its size and features will stand out when displayed alone or with other golf advertising pieces such as the Dunlop Man, The Penfold man and the North British Scottie Dog.
Some examples of this piece we have seen have a repainted base. This base is all original!
The originality of the piece is further confirmed by an inscribed signature to the base which reads” MFG. by A. P. & Co N.Y.C.”
Very few of these plaster pieces have survived over the years, especially in this overall wonderful condition. It is highly desirable and should be a must add to your golf related advertising collection.
