Jones, Sarazen, Hagen & Armour 1941 Masters Tee Shot at Augusta National Hand Colored Print
Optically alluring would be selling this hand colored 14 1/4" x 20" on thick, textured paper depiction of the famous foursome of founder Bobby Jones in his Masters playing days alongside Gene Sarazen, Walter Hagen, and Tommy Armour in the foreground of the Augusta National Clubhouse in 1941. The star studded spectacle Jones/Armour vs Hagen/Sarazen exhibition was held in front of an estimated 1,200 patrons (per Masters.com) during the 1941 Masters practice round. The teams would be the same as their Nassau, Bahamas match just months prior. Bobby Jones is in his post-swing pose, teeing off in the right quadrant of the composition. Abruptly retiring from competitive golf in 1930, Jones would play in his Masters Tournament from 1934 until 1948 sans the three WWII years of no tournament. Please closely inspect the accompanying lot photos that detail the professional color addition of a great attention to detail, such as the green panel of the patio umbrella or of the members' jackets. It is in very good condition, with a slight color lightening of the framed composition and darker where it was covered across the fairway below. It has been mounted to a board that has framing notations on the verso.
