Johnny Mcdermott Stereoview Card
The first American born US Open Champion, Johnny McDermott won back-to-back US Opens in 1911 and 1912.
It was at Chicago Golf Club in 1911 that Johnny would defeat Mike Brady and George Simpson in a playoff. The following year he won at the country Club of Buffalo over Tom McNamara.
Sometime after that triumph McDermott would begin dealing with mental illness. He was admitted to the State Hospital for the Insane in Norristown PA. and at age 23 his career was over.
Bay State publishing issued this card and it shows Johnny at the finish of his drive. It reads 'Bay State Publishing Co. London, England - Boston, Mass USA' on the side and '921`. J.J. McDermott Driving, Finish, front view. photo. 7x3 1/2"
Because of his two majors and a very brief career. anything related to Johnny McDermott is highly collectible and this card is very desirable.
