Joe Garagiola & Gerald Ford Dual Signed 1979 Tucson Open Program Cover and 1981 Pinback Button
This lot consists of two pieces of vintage golf memorabilia from the Joe Garagiola Tucson Open, a classic PGA Tour event sponsored by the Tucson Conquistadores.
The first item is the paper front cover from the tournament program or brochure for the event held February 12 to 18, 1979. The cover depicts television personality and former Major League Baseball player Joe Garagiola alongside the 38th President of the United States, Gerald R. Ford, who is shown wearing a metallic conquistador helmet. The front cover is signed in blue felt-tip pen by both figures, reading Joe Garagiola and G. R. Ford. The reverse of the program cover features a color advertisement for Old Grand-Dad Bourbon.
The second item is a vintage circular metal pinback button from the 1981 tournament. The button features a green outer border reading Joe Garagiola Tucson Open and a reflective mirrored silver center printed with 1981 DOUBLE EAGLE. The back of the pin is unfinished metal with a standard safety pin style clasp. James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed this signature and their auction letter of authenticity comes with this lot.
