Jock Hutchison's Personal 1920 PGA Championship Plaque - Presented By The PGA As Its Third Winner

Jock Hutchison's personal 12 1/2" by 9" by 3/4" brass and walnut award presented to him by the PGA of America, in recognition of his triumph at the 1920 PGA Championship. Crafted with the most high-tech embossing process of the era by renowned artist Bruce Fox (as identified on the verso of award), the work features its central theme of nature, in this case a leaf which was his most popular subject matter. This relief work appears centered on the award between the familiar logo of the PGA of America and the scripted wording "National Champion". Below this featured design is the designated honorees raised name plate in this case "Jock Hutchison Sr. 1920".The Champion of the 1920 PGA was a native of Scotland he would follow up his first major triumph the next year when he returned home to the Old Course at St. Andrews to put on one of the legendary displays of golf which occurred during the opening round of the 1921 Open Championship. He aced the 135-yard eighth hole and then narrowly missed back-to-back aces after driving the 278-yard ninth, catching the corner of the cup and lipping out to within inches. The start of a route that would see "Hutch" claim his second major by a wide nine stroke margin. The attractive personal award we offer here is sourced from the famed member of the "American Triumvirate" (Jock emigrated to the United States in his teens and became a U.S. citizen in 1920) and World Golf Hall of Famer. It exhibits some light wear, but remains in Ex-Mt condition. An exceptional and significant golf award presented to Jock Hutchison in recognition of his dominating mastery in the PGA Championship of '20. A signed letter of from PGA Historian Bob Denney will accompany this lot.
