Jeff Maggert's Gold Plated Ping Eye 2 Sand Wedge for Holing Out For Walk Off Win- 1999 WGC
In search of a way to commemorate every victory with a PING putter, PING Founder Karsten Solheim started giving out gold-plated putters in the 1970's that were built to the exact specs of the winner's model. When Jeff Maggert chipped in for the 1999 WGC-Anderson Consulting Match Play Championship walk off win, PING awarded him a gold replica of that Eye 2 sand wedge offered here. One example was built for the champion, while the other is placed inside the PING vault in Phoenix, AZ. The World Golf Hall of Fame had this very red dot wedge on display in celebration of the chip in win.
From the second cut just outside of the green apron Jeff Maggert used his Ping Eye 2 sand wedge to get his ball up and on the green towards the flag pulled hole and in to defeat Andrew Magee on the 38th hole and second extra for a walk off victory! Maggert's ball went around the entire hole prior to a jump in the air with two hands and his PING sand wedge up and Jeff Maggert's first win on the PGA Tour in 6 years. 35 1/2"
