James Bradbeer c.1930 Leather 'Jay-Bee' Full Size Golf Bag - Head Pro at Porters Park Golf Club
After discovering this bag, its origin story nearly consumed our consignor who was on a mission to find the unique bag's backstory. Through correspondence with multiple representatives from the current regime of Porters Park Golf Club or PPGC as it is stamped, a the breakthrough was realized for this bag that is much more than a century-old brown leather club toter - especially considering who it once toted clubs for. "Jaybee was the trademark of James Bradbeer who was the professional at PPGC From 1905 to 1937. There is a framed cartoon of him in the PPGC spike bar remembering the club's longtime head professional. He designed and had made hickory and steel shafted woods and irons, as many did for side income in this day and age. The irons were forged in Scotland.
The wooden glass fronted display cabinet in the PPGC Lounge Bar has 8 of his clubs shown at time of this email in July of 2025.
As he had Clubs made he would of course need to have a golf bag in which to carry them." This was very helpful and cracked the code of the 'Jay-Bee PPGC' stamping found on this bag. Porters Park Golf Club in Shenley Hill, Radlett United Kingdom was the club of former famous figures from golf and entertainment including Samuel Ryder and Sean Connery. Carry on the story with this bag that likely has a lot of stories of its own if only it could converse.
