Jack Nicklaus & Gary Player Signed 1959 Masters Tournament Monday Ticket #270 - Jack's Masters Debut!

Debuts have driven the thriving ticket category followed by moments and milestones. The first of Jack Nicklaus' 45 Masters starts came at 19-years old in 1959 as a Walker Cup Team player qualifier. Gaining admittance to see Nicklaus play at Augusta National for the very first time, this high-grade, low #270 Monday paper ducat was signed in blazing black sharpie by Jack Nicklaus and 8th place finisher, fellow Big Three member, Honorary Starter and first International champion Gary Player. The patron however had no idea the round's importance at the time. The Golden Bear (cub) would card rounds of 76 and 74 that week to miss the cut by a single stroke. The rest was history as we know it. The Ohio State University collegiate star Nicklaus would go on to win the US Amateur that year at Broadmoor Golf Club in Colorado Springs, Colorado 1-up over Charlie Coe, two years junior his filing for professional status. A rare pre-1960 ticket in its own right, it seems unlikely that there is another 1959 Monday Masters debut ticket signed by Jack Nicklaus out there; with fellow Honorary Starter Player including his penmanship for 9 Masters wins on the front of this ephemeral enigma. It has been preserved to good condition with original string intact and inconsequential adhesive residue and ink mark on verso, as shown in the accompanying lot photos. James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed this signature and their auction letter of authenticity (ALOA) comes with this lot.
