Jack Nicklaus Signed 1966 Open Championship 3rd Round Ticket
Across the front of this 60-year-old ticket from Jack Nicklaus' Grand Slam completion is the Golden Bear's scribe. Hobby fresh, this admission ticket for the third round of the 1966 Open Championship 'Ordinary' designated ticket that is anything but. Open Championships are regarded as the toughest of the four majors when it comes to tickets, programs and 'vintage' ephemera in general. This ducat was there during that week, preserved and signed by the all-time major champion. It was a monumental win. The Golden Bear was just the fourth golfer to complete the modern feat, Rory adding his name to that list in 2025 as just the sixth to do so and second since 1966. Nicklaus would go on to design 'Muirfield Village' in his home state of Ohio less than a decade later in this courses namesake.
Only the second example of a Jack signed ticket from the 1966 Open, our 2026 Feb Sat ticket topping $16k, this example consists of a square-cut red cardstock tag with a red twisted yarn cord attached through a punched hole at the top. The front of the tag displays printed black text including OPEN GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP, 1966, ORDINARY, and ADMISSION TO COURSE ONLY. It specifies the date as FRIDAY, 8th JULY, which was the third day of competition in which Jack Nicklaus secured his first Open Championship title. Additional printed details include a Charge 15/- and the serial number No 6667. The bottom edge of the tag features a serrated finish.
