Jack Nicklaus Signed 1962 Seattle Open Golf Invitational Season Grounds Badge
Jack did it again! September 16, 1962 would mark the Golden Bear's second professional win, viewed in its entirety with this blue and gold weekly badge that was since signed by champion Nicklaus. With the Seattle World's Fair held in proximity, the Seattle Open in 1962 attracted Arnold Palmer, Billy Casper, Tony Lema, Ken Venturi, Dave Hill, Julius Boros, Doug Sanders, along with Hollywood stars Bob Hope, James Garner, and a crowd of 6,000 for the pro-am on Wednesday. More importantly, as mentioned, the tournament was won that year by the 22-year-old rookie Jack Nicklaus for only his second victory as a professional and part of a whopping $100,000 season when that was a big deal. Nicklaus ended up with a 15-under-par 265 to win $4,300 first place money after a 2-under-par 68 final round. The extended professional coming out party was tacked on to his win over Palmer at the U.S. Open just months earlier in June. Offered here is Season Grounds Badge #2929 from the 1962 Seattle Open Golf Invitational. Both this badge and signature are in very good condition, as depicted in the accompanying lot photos.
