Jack Nicklaus Signed 1957 Original Photo Used for High School Yearbook PSA Type 1 Grade 7 #10001256
This very crystal clear PSA TYPE I photo was used for prep star Jack Nicklaus' 1957 Upper Arlington High School Senior class yearbook in Columbus, Ohio where he was on both the basketball and golf team. The dapper young man with a perfect hair part signed this remarkable photo in blue ballpoint pen up the left side, likely giving it to a friend or family himself after this was produced to hand out in very limited quantity nearly 70 years ago. Its survival story is a wonder in itself. Nicklaus' signature formation has not changed to the extent of Tiger Woods for instance, but those practiced in golf signatures can tell a significant difference in the formation between his c. 1957 example here and his fairly consistent penmanship from the last few decades. Each letter is written out, before the days of a gallery waiting for him after the round. Jack would attend The University of Ohio State the following year and win his first "major" the 1959 US Amateur a year later. This lot will be of great desire to photo collectors and those with a focus on the record 18-time major champion.
