Jack Nicklaus Practice Round Used Golf Ball From The 1997 US Open at Congressional w/Plaque
Prior to the 1997 US Open only two father-son combinations would make the field. The first in 1903 champion Willie Anderson and father Tom Sr - predating Father's day altogether. When Gary Nicklaus qualified for the US Open in 1997 perhaps the only one more excited about it was his father Jack. Jack's 41st time and Gary's 1st. They would enjoy a practice round together the Friday preceding the tournament.
This ball was given to our consignor by Jack after he birdied #9 that day alongside Gary. It would be displayed in a shadowbox with the 1997 US Open flag signed by both family members, with a small spot in which the golf ball didn't age on its verso. Jack Nicklaus' personal 'JACK' Maxfli HT 100 is accompanied by the original cherry wood plaque reads: "Jack Nicklaus - Congressional Country Club - Friday June 6, 1997 - U.S. Open Practice Round - Hole #9 - 609 Yards - Par 5 - Driver. 2-Iron. 5-Iron. 1 Putt - Birdie." Of significance is this Jack Nicklaus personal ball, from a father-son moment that was surely more than just a practice round. 6" x 4 1/2"
