J. McAndrew Glasgow Antique Hickory Shafted Smooth Face Niblick Golf Club
An early 20th-century antique golf club featuring a hand-forged iron head and a hickory wood shaft. The club is a high-lofted iron, identified by its rounded, spade-like head shape and thick sole as a niblick. The head has a smooth face without grooves or punch marks. The iron head is joined to the shaft with a long, tapered hosel. The shaft is constructed from straight-grained hickory wood. The grip is composed of a traditional wrapped brown leather material, secured at both ends with twine whipping. The back of the club head features several impressed marks. There is a cleek mark on the toe representing an open hand with five fingers. Above the center of the head, capital letters are stamped reading WARRANTED and HAND FORGED. Centrally located is an oval-shaped stamp containing the text J. McANDREW along the top arc, N.W.G.C. in the center, and GLASGOW along the bottom arc.
