Horton Smith's Personal Detroit Golf Club Vintage Logo Belt
The 1946-1963 Detroit Golf Club head professional and inaugural winner of The Masters Tournament, Horton Smith's personal belt from the club he long served is up for auction here. It should not be a surprise that the leading golfer had great success at Detroit Golf Club, carding a then record of "62" on his home course.
The consigner of this belt included an interesting story of how he came upon it, with the hopes of the belt going to the right collector that will appreciate it as much as he did. With extensive access to the then considered almost a blue collar PGA Tour in the 1950's and 1960's, this belt's owner got to know brothers and PGA Champions Jay and Lionel Hebert. They were then introduced to Horton Smith, with a life-long friendship with Smith developing. Upon the Joplin Ghost's passing in 1964, Smith's family made a point to gift a few personal items of Horton's to the consignor's family. The journey this belt has gone on can be seen in it, yet the museum quality display piece is just that. Nearly 70 years later, this personal belt from the Springfield, Missouri legend will be joining a new collection, likely as a conversation starter for years to come....especially in the month of April. A signed letter of provenance will come with this lot. McMillian's Aunt's name was omitted from this image, but will be included in the letter to the winning bidder.

Place your bids now as this auction will end at 9:00pm ET Sunday, April 11th with EXTENDED BIDDING to follow. When placing INITIAL bid, you must agree to the terms BEFORE confirming your bid. All items that have received multiple bids in the auction will remain open until no items have received a bid within a 15-minute time period (at 10pm ET, the countdown clock will be adjusted to a 5 minute interval). Place your bids now!
1. You must place your initial bids BEFORE extended bidding begins to bid on the item in extended bidding
2. During extended bidding, you are allowed to bid only on items you PREVIOUSLY placed a bid on.
3. All lots that are active in extended bidding will close at the same time, and those with only ONE or NO BIDS will close at 9pm ET
**If extended bidding goes pass midnight ET, The Golf Auction reserves the right to close the auction at any time. We recommend bidders place their maximum bids prior to that time. Thank you**
