Horton Smith Signed 1933 Ryder Cup Expense Breakdown Sheet
Containing the flowing ink signature of Horton Smith, this Ryder Cup expense report dates this signature to June 14, 1933, less than a year before Horton Smith would win the first playing of The Masters Tournament. He would of course then be the first to win twice when he topped the field again in 1936. The expense report lists both train rides, US tax and a British Visa that left $554 of his $1,000 budget. The bi-annual event in 1933 was held at Southport and Ainsdale Golf Club in England for the fourth time. The British team defeated the U.S. in a tight match by a score of 6 1/2 to 5 1/2. James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed this signature and their auction letter of authentication comes with this lot.
A letter of from PGA Historian Bob Denney will accompany this lot.
