Heavy Bronze Vardon Grip on Marble Plinth - 15" Tall & Weighs 17lbs
The overlapping Vardon Grip depicted in this substantial bronze statue on a plinth is used by the overwhelming majority of PGA Tour players to this day, over a century after the great Harry Vardon popularized it in the golf community. This impressive display correctly depicts the grip using three-dimensional life size hands to accomplish that feat. When using, the golfer places the "pinky" finger of the lower hand in between the index and middle finger of the hand above. The sculptor created this Vardon Grip demonstration around a textured rod projecting from the top of a seven-sided marble plinth. Its composition was executed without taking the viewer's attention away from the overlapping hands and weighs in at 17 lbs. Accuracy was achieved by the artist, from the abundant detail in the veins on the backside of each hand, to the finger nails. The leading member of the 'Great Triumvirate,' Harry Vardon won the Open Championship a record six times (1896, 1898, 1899, 1903, 1911, 1914) and was the 1900 U.S. Open champion. 15"
