Hal Sutton's 1985 President (Gerald) Jerry Ford Invitational First Place Trophy
“In the many years when there was no such thing as a PGA Tour event in the state, the JFI was the next-best thing, with a twist. For 20 years, 1977 through 1996, some of the best golfers in the world — along with a stellar list of celebrities — came to the Vail Valley for a couple of days of golf and fun. Among the winners of the event were Jack Nicklaus, Tom Weiskopf and Craig Stadler. Other participants in the tournament, which raised more than $1.5 million for charity during its run, included Tom Watson, Hale Irwin, Johnny Miller and Ray Floyd," writer for the Daily Camera publication Gary Baines reminisced in 2009 about the Colorado Jerry Ford Invitational shortly after Ford's passing. Baines went on to list some of the many A-List celebrities that would participate in the president's tournament from year to year, the likes of Clint Eastwood to Bob Hope to Jimmy Buffet to Yogi Berra - seemingly everyone was there.
Hal Sutton's 1985 Jerry Ford Invitational First Place Trophy is proudly presented in this lot. An elephant rendering holding the round "Jerry Ford Invitational" logo, with a centered Presidential Seal, in its mouth standing atop a round marbled wood base - a format Ford often presented distinguished person gifts and trophies on. Intense texturing detail ranges from the wrinkles in the elephant skin, to the logo and lettering in shallow relief, to the sprawling ground in which the elephant is standing on. "First Place 1985" is carefully engraved on the front nameplate. 4" diameter, 5" tall.

When placing your INITIAL bid in the auction, you must agree to the terms BEFORE confirming your bid. All items with multiple bids in the auction will be eligible for the extended bidding period. Each lot will have its OWN COUNTDOWN CLOCK set for a 30-minute interval, and the clock will extend 30-minutes from the time of the most recently placed bid for that lot. If no bids are placed on that lot during a 30-minute period, the lot will close. Place your bids now!
1. You must place your initial bids BEFORE extended bidding begins to bid on the item in extended bidding
2. During extended bidding, you are allowed to bid only on items you PREVIOUSLY placed a bid on.
3. All lots with only ONE or NO BIDS will automatically close at 10pm ET
4. All available lots will begin closing on a LOT BY LOT basis at 10pm ET
