Hal Sutton's 1978 North & South Amateur Golf Championship at Pinehurst Runner-Up Trophy
For over 115 years qualifying top amateurs from around the country have congregated at the United States golf capitol Pinehurst Resort in North Carolina. It is the setting for the annual North and South Amateur tournament. The tournament's cherished trophies feature the Putter Boy sundial in 2022, just as they did in 1978 when then 20-year old Shreveport, Louisiana native Hal Sutton received this hardware for his runner-up finish to Gary Hallberg. 1978 marked two years prior to the sensational Amateur Sutton's victory at both The North and South Amateur and US Amateur Championship tournaments, and three years prior to his rookie season on the PGA Tour. Hal Sutton's prestigious amateur trophy stands 6 1/2" x 6 1/2" x 9 1/2" and carries a nameplate "78th North and South Amateur Golf Championship Runner-Up" on the plinth it rests on. A signed letter of provenance from Hal Sutton Comes with this lot.
